Mohamed Farid, Fish Window Cleaning, Fairfax, VAWe are all familiar with the idea of the American Dream. After all, the United States is known as the Land of Opportunity. Many young entrepreneurs, in America and abroad, dream of finding financial freedom through business ownership in the States. For Mohamed Farid, Fish Window Cleaning helped him find his path to success in America.

Starting Out

Mohamed was born in Kuwait but lived most of his life in Egypt. There, he had a very successful career, working in the food industry in a corporate capacity, but he was ready for a change. While much of his family remains in Egypt, Mohamed’s sister moved to the U.S. 20 years ago and became an American citizen. After learning more about her experience in America, Mohamed decided he would like to move his family to the U.S. as well. The process took quite a while, but in 2013, Mohamed was able to move to the United States.

Entrepreneurship

While Mohamed did not face a language barrier when he moved to America, there were a few aspects of life in the U.S. that were tricky to navigate. The biggest challenge was finding a suitable job. He initially thought of working in corporate America but quickly realized that, because of his age and international work history, it would be difficult to secure a suitable job in that field.

It was then that Mohamed began considering small-business ownership. He was eager to take control of his career and his future, but he wanted help navigating the tricky process. That’s when he decided to look into franchising. With the help of a franchise advisor, Mohamed decided to invest in Fish Window Cleaning.

Why FISH?

Mohamed considered several franchises before deciding that FISH was the right brand for him.

“I knew that franchising was the right choice, but I wanted a brand that was stable, had repeat customers as a driving force behind the business model, and preferably one that would let me have nights and weekends off. FISH fit the bill,” says Mohamed.

After attending an educational Discovery Day in 2015, Mohamed was sure that FISH was the brand for him. During the event, he enjoyed meeting with the corporate team and learning more about Fish Window Cleaning’s sustainable, scalable business model. He felt confident moving forward in his investment.

“The training was well done, and I was very impressed by the corporate team. I like that they are there to help whenever a problem comes up. Additionally, I love being a part of a team, or a larger group. I can talk with other franchisees about their experiences, and I just feel very supported.”

By February 2016, Mohamed was in business.
