How I find employees that want to work…..

January 30, 2012 Forget Cragslist, helpwanted.com, and the others….go get your employees yourself! After years of trying to advertise for employees, I have given up on advertising for job openings. I had to learn the hard way how companies are finding employees. Are you frustrated with Cragslist? The applicants I get out of there are worthless. They are the unemployed that are simply trying to make sure they apply for work to meet the requirements of getting their unemployment check. They don’t even bother to show up for scheduled interviews right? Yep, me too….So I had to change.

Multiple Territory Management, Chapter One...

This is easy to explain but its hard to explain at the same time. I don’t do anything special to run multiple territories. I follow the same system in each business. In my area, we are able to grow outside of our established Fish territory and expand geographically by simply doing what we do. I understand I am working out of my territory, but there’s nothing between Eau Claire and surrounding areas but small towns and cropland. You guys in New Jersey need to realize I have no territory to jump over and no one’s territory to work around. We move into small towns in our area and establish service and cold call the town. There is far less competition, if any at all, in our small towns. Yes, I am working out of my territory, but I understand the risk that someone might “buy” the territory is very minimal.

Paying my sales people

Hi everyone! The number one question I'm asked is how I pay a sales person.....Well here it is, and NOT in a nutshell. It's complicated, because salespeople are very sensitive to how they are paid and its usually complicated. And it is with me, too...complicated. Anyway here goes:

Trust from your customers...

Today is August 4, 2011. Wendy just hung up the phone with a customer we cleaned for the first time ever.....upon the completion of the job, the lady of the house paid the cleaner just like they should. BUT two weeks later....today, we recieved a check for the invoice from the husband...a double payment. Wendy called the husband, explained, and offered to return his money....his reply was, "Just keep it, we'll find some windows to clean someday...."

Beginning my Blog

Hey Everyone! I just got back form the Convention and was exhausted! What a great time. All the energy, all the new people, all the staff working hard to make everything flow! WOW! Anyway, many of you did not get a chance to talk to me so I thought I would start a blog so we can communicate about anything you'd like to ask me that did not happen at convention. Also, throughout the year, I'll be blogging about the current thoughts on my business, what's going on up here in Wisconsin, and how I manage multiple territories. I would like to encourage everyone to ask me whatever you'd like to ask me about! PLEASE! I am not creative enough to dream up stuff to talk about. This is about relaying my experiences to anyone interested. Take my words as ideas, not rules, and keep in mind Fish is monitoring us...so this is about how I've "advanced" an already fantastic system. Occasionally, I will speak my mind aboput politics, government, and some things near and dear to my heart. If you don't like what I say, unsubscribe. If you like what I say, give me feedback! I look forward providing content on an irregular weekly basis. If you'd like to reply privately, please do so, my email is espeseth@fishwindowcleaning.com. Talk to you soon!
