This starts a new series of blog posts centered around customer questions. The idea here is to give you a little more information before you call or otherwise contact us. In my opinion, the more informed a customer is the better. Personally, when I am researching a company I look for FAQs so I will be writing these posts in that format. If you have a question that you would like me to answer in this forum please email me directly at esilver@fishwindowcleaning.com.

Now, I realize I just said that I would be answering customer questions, but before I get into that I feel I need to answer a question we sometimes get before someone becomes a customer and before they completely understand what we do. Today's question is: Why would I pay someone to clean my windows when I can do it myself?

There are a couple quick and easy answers for this:

1. You are busy. Most of us are busy working our primary jobs during the day (or night) and come home to do a few things and take care of family issues. On the weekends who wants to work? Is this the time for fun and relaxation? If you are busy cleaning windows you are most likely not having fun OR relaxing.

2. We can probably do it much cheaper than you. First, you need to think about your time and what it is worth. Honestly, think about this. When you aren't working you have control over how much you make or spend. If you could set your own hourly rate what would it be? $20 per hour, $40 per hour, $80 per hour? Most times service industries such as plumbers, lawn services, mechanics are getting $60-90 per hour depending on where you live. If they are working past 5 pm or on the weekend they charge more. Is your time worth what theirs is? Let's say you think your time is worth $60 per hour and you are doing this work on the weekend. The actual rate would be $90 per hour. How long will it take you to clean? Depends on the number of windows and the condition they are in, but you can safely say 3-6 hours. If you have 2nd story windows it could be more than this. So the range we are looking at is $270-$540 of your time.

Another consideration is equipment. To do it right you will need some a few things and you will need to know how to use them. While they aren't terribly expensive they are tools you will not be using all the time so is it a great use of your money to inventory these? Learning how properly use a squeegee without leaving streaks is more difficult than you think.

3. We are insured. Why is this important you ask? We just established that your time is worth a significant amount of money. If you are laid up for a few days what is that costing you? Fall and get hurt you and you are paying the doctor and/or insurance company and losing time you could be doing something else. If one of our cleaners gets hurt we are insured and they will be taken care of. You suffer no pain and are able to move on without any financial or health concerns

Until next time.
